Syrian Interior Ministry: suspect detained in Ghab area over sectarian incitement

Hama, Jan. 14 (SANA) Syria’s Interior Ministry said on Wednesday that the Internal Security Directorate in the Ghab area, in coordination with the Counterterrorism Branch in Hama province in central Syria, arrested Ali Musab Rajouh, who previously held the rank of first lieutenant at the Naval Academy during the ousted regime era.

In a statement published on the ministry’s official Telegram channel on Wednesday, the ministry said preliminary investigation findings showed that the suspect continued to carry out his duties until the liberation battle, before later becoming involved in what it described as suspicious activities.

Those activities included incitement to sectarian strife and issuing calls aimed at undermining the country’s unity and harming its national fabric, according to the statement.

The ministry said the detainee has been referred to the competent judicial authorities to complete the necessary legal procedures. It added that Internal Security leadership continues to carry out targeted operations to pursue those described as outside the law and bring them to justice.
