Journalists Union condemns attacks on journalists in coastal and al-Jazeera regions

Damascus, Dec.29 (SANA) The Syrian Journalists Union has condemned the targeting of journalists in several Syrian regions, describing these attacks as a blatant violation of press freedom.

In a statement, the Union said that the attacks on journalists and security forces that took place in Lattakia and Tartous governorates “were carried out by groups linked to the former regime, in an attempt to destabilize the country.”

The statement stressed that targeting journalists is a crime that cannot be justified under any pretext.

In the same context, the Union condemned the arrest of journalist Firas al-Barjas by SDF forces, in al-Jazeera region who was taken from his workplace in Raqqa to an unknown location.

The union emphasized that press freedom is a fundamental and indivisible right, calling on all authorities and forces exercising control on the ground to protect journalists. It renewed its commitment to continuing to document violations and to engage with relevant parties locally and internationally in defense of press freedom and the dignity of the Syrian journalist.
