Criminal investigation unravels embezzlement and bribery network at al-Biruni Hospital

Damascus, Dec. 14 (SANA) The Criminal Investigation Branch in Damascus, acting on a report from the Central Financial Control Authority, has successfully dismantled a large embezzlement and bribery network within the General Authority of al-Biruni Hospital. As a result of the investigation, three main suspects were arrested.

A source from the Ministry of the Interior, in a statement to SANA, confirmed that this operation is part of the ministry’s ongoing efforts to combat corruption and protect public funds.

The detained suspects confessed during the investigations to being involved in embezzlement, accepting bribes, and organizing fake contracts within the hospital in collaboration with several employees. Preliminary estimates suggest that the total amount embezzled over the past several years amounts to billions of Syrian pounds, in addition to large quantities of gold coins, reflecting the scale of financial violations.

The source confirmed that the competent authorities are continuing to track down all those involved and will take legal actions against them according to the provisions of the law, ensuring the protection of public funds and promoting accountability and transparency in public institutions.
