Engineering teams continue mine‑clearing in Nahshaba hills to enable civilian return

Latakia ,March 5 (SANA)  Syrian military engineering teams, working with the 50th Division, are continuing mine-clearing operations in the Nahshaba Hills in northern Latakia to secure the area and allow displaced residents to return.

Mohammad Ali Awad, head of the clearance branch at the Military Engineering Directorate, said teams were deployed after residents reported suspected mines. Field inspections revealed numerous mines scattered across farmland and near homes, posing a direct threat to civilians.

Awad said the mission aims to remove dangerous remnants of war and restore safe conditions for families returning to the area. He noted that rugged terrain and the widespread presence of mines have made the operation more difficult.

The effort is part of a broader national plan to clear mines and unexploded ordnance across Syria and restore stability to affected regions.
