Italy supports health response in Syria with EUR 3 million

Rome, SANA- The Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) announced that it has provided EUR 3 million to the World Health Organization to  enhance Syria’s capacity to detect, respond and prevent disease outbreaks through a new contribution of EUR 3 million.

Alessandra Permati, Director of the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation in Lebanon, said : “The Italian Agency for Development Cooperation has supported WHO’s efforts to enhance access to essential health services in Syria for years…The agency will continue its contribution to strengthening the prevention and surveillance capacities essential for the future of public health in Syria.”

For its part, the World Health Organization stated on its website that this funding will enable the strengthening of disease surveillance systems, the rehabilitation of public health laboratories in Damascus and Daraa, and support the digital transformation of health information systems.

The organization added that those efforts will contribute to improving early detection of infectious diseases, enhancing laboratory testing capacities, and accelerating emergency response to protect communities across the country.
