Cairo, June 28 (SANA) The Eighth Conference of the Arab Parliament and Speakers of Arab Councils and Parliaments on Saturday reaffirmed its support for Syria’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, security and stability, while condemning repeated Israeli attacks on Syrian territory.
In the conference’s final communiqué, issued at the conclusion of its meeting at the headquarters of the League of Arab States in Cairo, participants condemned Israel’s continued attacks on Syria and Lebanon, as well as interventions in Somalia. The statement said protecting the sovereignty, security and stability of Arab states remains a top priority.
The conference also condemned Iranian attacks on several Arab countries, saying Arab parliaments remain united in addressing regional challenges and in supporting efforts to safeguard the sovereignty and security of Arab states. It said protecting Arab national security is a shared Arab responsibility.
According to the communiqué, participants adopted a resolution opposing Israeli policies aimed at eliminating the Palestinian cause. The conference also renewed its support for the legitimate and inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, reaffirming the long-standing Arab position that the Palestinian issue remains the central cause of the Arab nation.
The participants called for continued coordination among Arab parliaments and for stronger parliamentary diplomacy to advance common Arab interests and support Arab positions in regional and international forums.
Earlier this week, Arab Parliament Speaker Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Yamahi called for greater Arab solidarity and closer coordination among Arab states to address what he described as growing regional challenges and risks. He also stressed the importance of strengthening joint Arab action during the current period.
