Paris, July 6 (SANA)  French President Emmanuel Macron on Monday reiterated his country’s support for the Syrian people and a unified sovereign Syria.

In a post on X, President Macron said upon arriving in Damascus, “I have come to confirm France’s commitment to supporting the Syrian people, ensuring a sovereign Syria that is united in its pluralism and at peace with its neighbors.”

The French president stated that France is initiating a new phase in the Syrian–French relation.

“Let us open a new chapter of stability and peace together,” he said.

Macron and an accompanying delegation arrived in Damascus on an official visit to Syria.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani received President Macron and his delegation upon their arrival at Damascus International Airport.

The visit marks the first by a French president to Syria since 2009 and reflects the transition of Syrian-French relations into a new phase based on mutual respect and an equal partnership.

Je viens dire l’engagement de la France auprès du peuple syrien. Pour une Syrie souveraine, unie dans sa pluralité et en paix avec ses voisins. Ensemble, ouvrons une nouvelle page de stabilité et de paix.
