Riyadh, March 22 (SANA) The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) on Sunday condemned the continued Iranian attacks on its member states, warning they represent an escalation that threatens regional stability and global energy supplies.
GCC Secretary-General Jassim Mohammed Al-Budaiwi said in a statement issued by the bloc that the attacks included targeting infrastructure and oil facilities, which he described as violations of international law and a direct threat to security in the Gulf region.
“The continuation of these attacks clearly reflects an escalatory approach,” Al-Budaiwi said, adding that such actions undermine efforts to de-escalate tensions and pose risks to both regional and international security.
He rejected Iranian claims that Gulf states bear responsibility for any military operations, describing them as unfounded. He said GCC countries adhere to policies based on respect for sovereignty and non-interference in the internal affairs of other states.
Al-Budaiwi said member states reserve the right to respond to threats under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, which allows for self-defense, and may take necessary measures to protect their security and economic resources.
He called on the international community to take a firm stance against the attacks and urged Iran to comply with UN Security Council Resolution 2817 of 2026.
The GCC chief also reaffirmed the unity of member states in confronting security threats and their commitment to joint efforts aimed at maintaining regional stability.
The statement comes amid a broader escalation in the Gulf, where recent weeks have seen Iranian missile and drone attacks targeting civilian infrastructure and residential areas, following U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran that have entered their fourth week.
