Paris, July 21 (SANA) France summoned Iran’s chargé d’affaires on Tuesday to protest the detention of staff at its embassy in Tehran and what it described as their physical intimidation by Iranian security forces.
Reuters quoted the French Foreign Ministry as saying in a statement that France expects the Iranian authorities to clarify the circumstances of the incident, hold those responsible accountable and ensure the security of its diplomatic premises and personnel in line with their international obligations.
On Monday, the French Foreign Ministry condemned the temporary detention of French diplomats in Tehran. French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot described the incident as “an extremely serious act of intimidation,” saying one of the diplomats was assaulted during the detention.
