Riyadh, March 19 (SANA) – Foreign ministers from a group of Arab and Islamic countries strongly condemned Iranian missile and drone attacks targeting several countries in the region, calling for an immediate halt to hostilities and respect for international law.
In a joint statement issued after a consultative meeting in Riyadh, ministers from Syria, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Lebanon, Pakistan, Türkiye, and Azerbaijan denounced what they described as deliberate attacks on civilian areas and critical infrastructure, including oil facilities, desalination plants, airports, residential areas, and diplomatic sites.
The ministers stressed that such actions cannot be justified under any circumstances, reaffirming the right of states to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter. They called on Iran to cease its attacks immediately, respect the sovereignty of states, and adhere to principles of good neighborliness as a first step toward reducing tensions and restoring regional stability.
The statement also urged Iran to comply with UN Security Council Resolution 2817 (2026), refrain from threatening international navigation routes such as the Strait of Hormuz and Bab al-Mandab, and halt support for armed groups in the region. Ministers emphasized that future relations with Iran depend on its respect for sovereignty and non-interference.
Participants also reiterated support for Lebanon’s sovereignty and stability, including efforts to ensure state control over weapons, while condemning Israeli attacks on Lebanon and broader regional escalation. The meeting comes amid ongoing tensions following military developments in the region since late February.
