CAPITALS, April 19 (SANA) Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and the Muslim World League have condemned an attack targeting the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in southern Lebanon that killed a French peacekeeper and wounded three others.
Bahrain’s Foreign Ministry described the attack as a “blatant violation of international law” and reaffirmed the kingdom’s support for Lebanon’s efforts to bring those responsible to justice, according to an official statement.
The ministry also expressed support for UNIFIL’s role in maintaining peace and stability in Lebanon.
The Muslim World League also condemned the attack, with Secretary-General Sheikh Dr. Mohammed bin Abdul Karim Al-Issa describing it as a “flagrant violation” of United Nations resolutions and international humanitarian law, which require the protection of peacekeeping personnel.
The United Arab Emirates issued a similar condemnation, calling the targeting of peacekeepers a violation of international law and UN Security Council Resolution 1701. The UAE expressed condolences to France and solidarity with Lebanon, and called for a thorough investigation into the incident.
French President Emmanuel Macron said earlier that one French UNIFIL peacekeeper was killed and three others were wounded in the attack on Saturday.
