New York, April 19 (SANA) UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres strongly condemned an attack targeting the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) that killed a French peacekeeper and wounded three others.
The UN News Center quoted Secretary-General’s spokesman Stéphane Dujarric as saying the incident highlights the seriousness of the situation, noting that it marks the third attack in recent weeks to result in UNIFIL fatalities.
Guterres urged all parties to respect the cessation of hostilities and the ceasefire, and called on them to uphold their obligations under international law and ensure the safety and security of UN personnel.
He also called for a swift investigation into the incident and for those responsible to be held accountable.
French President Emmanuel Macron confirmed that one French UNIFIL peacekeeper was killed and three others were wounded in the attack in southern Lebanon.
