Damascus, Dec. 4 (SANA) Members of the United Nations Security Council delegation, during the visit to Damascus on Thursday, reaffirmed the Council’s support for Syria’s sovereignty, unity, independence, and territorial integrity.

At a press conference held at the Semiramis Hotel, Slovenia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Samuel Žbogar, speaking on behalf of the visiting delegation, said that the key message of the visit was “trust.”

“We came here to build trust, to support Syria’s efforts toward a better future, and to strengthen the trust of the Syrian people in the work of the Security Council and the United Nations,” Žbogar said.

He noted that the delegation held meetings with President Ahmad al-Sharaa, the Foreign Minister, and several members of the Syrian government, as well as with UN teams in Damascus, civil society organizations, religious leaders, representatives of communities affected by the coastal and Sweida events, investigative committees, and families of the missing.

Žbogar said discussions covered a broad range of issues, including justice and reconciliation, inclusiveness in the political process, national dialogue, reconstruction, economic development, and counterterrorism.

“Our message was unified, simple, and clear,” he added. “We recognize both the aspirations of your country and the challenges it faces. The path toward Syria’s new future must be one that is led and owned by Syrians themselves, and the international community stands ready to support you in achieving this goal.”

He also emphasized that the presence of a UN team inside Syria helps provide the country with the necessary tools and expertise to advance toward a more stable and prosperous future.

The Security Council delegation arrived in Syria earlier on Thursday and held multiple meetings with officials and civil society representatives. The visit marks the first-ever visit by a Security Council delegation to Syria since the Council’s establishment in 1945.
