Damascus, June.8 (SANA) Syria affirmed that the right of victims and their families to know the truth and access information related to the violations they suffered is a fundamental human right, a cornerstone of justice and the rule of law, and an essential element for strengthening civil peace and social stability.

In a statement issued Sunday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said that experiences related to the grave violations witnessed in Syria have shown that the value of information, documents, and evidence lies not only in their preservation or archiving, but also in their use to serve the families of victims, uncover the truth, clarify the fate of the missing, document violations, and support transitional justice, accountability, and reparations efforts.

“In this context, the Syrian Arab Republic calls upon all states, international organizations, and relevant mechanisms that possess information, documents, or evidence related to the Syrian situation to share this information with the competent national institutions and enable them to utilize it in a way that serves the victims and their families, uncovers the truth, and supports transitional justice, accountability, and national recovery efforts,” the Ministry added.

It affirmed that providing this information in a timely manner is essential to alleviating the suffering of victims and their families, strengthening trust in national institutions, and supporting the work of the National Authority for Transitional Justice and the National Authority for Missing Persons, thereby contributing to the consolidation of civil peace and social stability.

The Ministry reiterated Syria’s commitment to constructive cooperation with all relevant international partners and its readiness to develop partnerships and joint programs that serve the families of victims and enhance the capacities of relevant national institutions, thereby achieving tangible results in uncovering the truth, establishing justice, and supporting national recovery and social reconciliation.
