Capitals, July 13 (SANA) Jordan said on Monday its air defenses intercepted and destroyed four missiles launched from Iran, while Bahrain activated nationwide warning sirens and the U.S. military reported downing Iranian aerial threats targeting commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, as regional tensions continued to escalate.
The General Command of the Jordanian Armed Forces said its air defense systems intercepted four missiles that entered Jordanian airspace from Iranian territory early Monday.
According to Jordan’s Petra news agency, a military source said the interception was carried out as part of measures to protect the kingdom’s sovereignty, national security and the safety of its citizens. No casualties or material damage were reported.
The source said Royal Engineers Corps teams secured areas where missile debris fell and took the necessary precautions to protect residents and property.
Jordan had announced on Sunday that three missiles launched from Iran had fallen at several locations inside the country, causing no casualties and only minor material damage.
In Bahrain, the Interior Ministry activated warning sirens across the country and urged citizens and residents to remain calm and immediately seek shelter following attacks linked to Iran’s targeting of U.S. interests in Arab Gulf states.
In a statement posted on X, the ministry instructed the public to proceed to the nearest safe location and follow official channels for updates.
Bahrain’s Defense Force said on Sunday that its air defense systems had intercepted and destroyed several Iranian missiles and drones targeting the kingdom, adding that the attacks targeted civilians and that the country’s air defenses had responded effectively.
The United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Kuwait have also announced that their forces intercepted Iranian missile and drone attacks directed toward their territories. Oman, meanwhile, said two drones struck the commercial port of Duqm, injuring a foreign worker but causing no material damage.
Separately, the U.S. military said its aircraft had shot down an Iranian cruise missile and a one-way attack drone that were targeting commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
CNN quoted U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) spokesman Tim Hawkins as saying that Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps had again targeted commercial shipping in the strategic waterway in recent hours.
Axios, citing a U.S. official, reported that about 20 commercial vessels crossed the Strait of Hormuz over the past 24 hours in coordination with U.S. forces, while several others transited the strait independently.
Earlier on Monday, CENTCOM said it had conducted a new round of strikes against Iran in response to what it described as continued attacks on maritime navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. The command said it had completed a third round of strikes during the past week, targeting around 140 military sites after another commercial vessel came under attack in the waterway.
