New York, Oct. 15 (SANA) Syria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ibrahim Olabi, reaffirmed Syria’s commitment to holding perpetrators of crimes accountable, ensuring justice for victims and preventing violations from recurring.

Speaking during the UN General Assembly’s Sixth Committee discussion of the agenda item on crimes against humanity, Olabi said Syria’s election as vice-chair of the bureau of the preparatory committee for the UN Conference of Plenipotentiaries on the Prevention and Punishment of Crimes Against Humanity reflected the Syrian people’s determination to advance justice and member states’ confidence in Syria’s constructive contribution to drafting the anticipated convention.

In a post by Syria’s UN mission on X, Olabi outlined national efforts to strengthen justice and accountability. He also drew a contrast between Syria’s efforts to contribute to drafting the convention and what he described as Israel’s continued crimes and violations on Syrian territory.

Syria was elected vice-chair of the preparatory committee’s bureau in January.
