Berlin, March 30 (SANA) President Ahmad al-Sharaa said at the German–Syrian Business Forum in Berlin on Monday that Syria has made extensive amendments to its investment law to facilitate and encourage investment in the country.
“We have made many amendments to the investment law to facilitate and encourage investment in Syria,” President al-Sharaa said.
The president added that Syria’s strategic location positions it as “a safe hub for energy supply chains,” saying the country offers “major investment opportunities in infrastructure and oil and gas resources.”
President al-Sharaa also pointed to the role of the Syrian community abroad, saying there is a large Syrian community in Germany and that German entities interested in investing in Syria can benefit from members of this community.
Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani, speaking at the same forum, said Syria’s vision is centered on reconstruction and development following years of destruction.
“Syria’s vision is based on reconstruction and development after the massive destruction left by the deposed regime,” al-Shaibani said.
He described the lifting of sanctions over the past year as a key milestone, calling it “the most significant achievement” and saying it has opened “a gateway of hope for Syrians.”
Al-Shaibani added that Syria aims to join the ranks of developed nations and move beyond the hardships it has endured.
Syria’s Minister of Economy and Industry Nidal al-Shaar said at the forum that Syria and Germany have, throughout history, shared periods of cooperation and longstanding relations.
He said efforts are being exerted today to reconnect with the world in a way that serves the interests of the Syrian people and strengthens ties with other countries.
Al-Shaar added that the Syrian community in Germany represents a humanitarian and economic bridge between the two nations, serving as a lasting link to strengthen bilateral relations.
Minister of Energy Mohammad al-Bashir announced that two memorandums of understanding will be signed with Siemens to cooperate on building a command and control system for the Syrian grid, in addition to a memorandum with Knauf for the production of gypsum boards, as well as cooperation in the fields of water and energy.
Minister of Emergency and Disaster Management Raed al-Saleh said Germany had played a role in supporting the Syrian Civil Defense during the years of the revolution, as well as during the response to the aftermath of the February 2023 earthquake.
Al-Saleh added that authorities are looking to benefit from Germany’s expertise in emergency response, disaster management and early warning systems.
The forum is part of President al-Sharaa’s official visit to Germany with a ministerial delegation, aimed at expanding international engagement and strengthening cooperation.
