Istanbul, May 22 (SANA) Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan confirmed Friday that Türkiye is continuing joint operations with Syria’s new government in the fields of mining and oil, describing the partnership as part of Ankara’s broader drive to achieve energy independence and expand its role as a regional energy hub.
Speaking at the second Istanbul Natural Resources Summit (INRES), Erdoğan said: “Our joint work with the new government of our neighbor Syria in the fields of mining and oil is ongoing.”
He added that Türkiye is determined to replicate in the energy and mining sectors the successes it has achieved in defense industries, stating that full energy independence is Ankara’s highest strategic goal.
Erdoğan said Türkiye‘s extensive energy infrastructure — which allows it to import natural gas from more than 50 companies across 39 countries — positions it as the primary bridge and transit point between energy-rich regions and energy-importing nations. He said new investments will raise Türkiye’s daily LNG capacity from the current 161 million cubic meters to 200 million cubic meters.
The remarks come a day after Erdoğan reaffirmed in a phone call with U.S. President Donald Trump that Türkiye’s support for Syria remains uninterrupted, stressing that consolidating stability there serves the entire region.
