Kathmandu, Aug. 29 (SANA) The death toll from severe flash floods that swept through northern Nepal has risen to 675, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority announced Saturday, noting that the figure remains provisional as search and rescue operations proceed.
According to the agency, the missing person lists include 517 foreign nationals as well as 933 workers employed at power stations and underground hydropower projects along the flooded river system.
The list of missing individuals also includes 45 Nepali Army personnel, 40 police officers, and 19 immigration and customs officials.
The catastrophic flooding followed torrential rains and flash surges that struck mountainous regions, causing extensive casualties, damaging critical infrastructure, and devastating surrounding settlements. Search and rescue teams continue search operations across the affected zones.
