Ankara, May 21 (SANA) Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan told U.S. President Donald Trump that lasting stability in Syria would benefit the broader Middle East, according to Türkiye’s Anadolu Agency.
The comments came during a phone call between the two leaders on Wednesday focused on regional tensions, bilateral relations and ongoing diplomatic efforts involving Iran.
Erdoğan said Türkiye would continue supporting Syria and stressed the importance of maintaining stability in both Syria and Lebanon amid growing regional uncertainty.
He also welcomed the extension of the ceasefire between the United States and Iran, describing it as a positive step that could help open the way for a negotiated solution to regional disputes.
The Turkish president said Ankara would continue backing constructive diplomatic initiatives aimed at reducing tensions across the region.
The two leaders also discussed preparations for the upcoming NATO summit scheduled to be held in Ankara on July 7-8, with Erdoğan saying Türkiye was making extensive preparations to ensure the meeting’s success.
Trump said earlier this week that he had suspended a planned military strike against Iran after requests from Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, amid ongoing diplomatic contacts with Tehran.
