London, Aug. 21 (SANA) Britain, Australia and Canada on Friday condemned Israel’s decision to close an investigation into the targeting of a World Central Kitchen aid convoy in the Gaza Strip in April 2024, describing the move as “outrageous” and calling for accountability.
In a joint statement published by the British Foreign Office, the three countries said they had for more than two years urged Israel to conduct a swift and comprehensive investigation into the incident and hold those responsible accountable.
They said the Israeli army’s announcement on August 19 that it would not open a criminal investigation into the attack, without providing further explanation, was “outrageous,” particularly as it came on World Humanitarian Day, when the world recognizes the courage and sacrifices of humanitarian workers.
The statement said the decision was delayed and insufficient, stressing that the victims and their families deserve justice and accountability.
The three countries said they would continue seeking answers on behalf of the victims’ families, noting that the World Central Kitchen convoy attack was among several incidents in Gaza where accountability has not been achieved.
They added that humanitarian workers in Gaza continue their efforts to assist civilians despite the risks, describing the Strip as the most dangerous place for humanitarian operations, with 186 aid workers killed there in 2025.
The countries called on Israel to fulfill its obligations under international humanitarian law, take further steps to ensure the safety of aid workers and draw lessons from the tragedy.
The Israeli occupation army targeted a World Central Kitchen convoy on April 1, 2024, while it was delivering food to civilians in Gaza, killing seven aid workers, including British, Australian and Canadian-American nationals.
