Kyiv/Moscow, Aug. 19 (SANA) Russia and Ukraine reported casualties from overnight attacks as fighting continued along the front lines, with Ukraine’s military reporting 239 clashes over the past 24 hours.

Four people were killed and five wounded when a Russian drone struck a bus in the southern Ukrainian city of Kherson, Ukrinform reported, citing the Ukrainian Prosecutor General’s Office.

Ukraine’s General Staff said 239 clashes were recorded between Ukrainian and Russian forces over the past 24 hours. It said Russian forces launched two missile attacks and carried out 87 airstrikes involving 302 guided bombs.

The General Staff said Ukrainian air defenses shot down 56 drones and two Banderol missiles used in attacks on Ukrainian territory since Tuesday evening.

Russian authorities, meanwhile, reported casualties from Ukrainian attacks. The head of Luhansk said three people were killed and 10 wounded, while the acting governor of Russia’s Belgorod region, Alexander Shuvayev, said one civilian was killed and 18 others wounded in strikes on the region.

Twenty employees of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant were injured Tuesday in what a plant official described as a Ukrainian attack on a public transport parking area, communications director Yevgeniya Yashina told TASS.

Russia’s Defense Ministry said its air defenses had destroyed five HIMARS rockets and 965 Ukrainian drones.

The ministry also said Russian forces struck a cargo vessel that it said was carrying military equipment for Ukrainian forces in the Black Sea southeast of Odesa on Tuesday evening.

It said Russian forces targeted fuel and lubricant storage facilities used by Ukrainian forces at the port of Chornomorsk and claimed control of Vodyanske in the Donetsk region.

The latest fighting comes amid the conflict that began in February 2022, with both sides increasingly relying on drones for attacks along and beyond the front lines.
