Aleppo, Oct. 15 (SANA) The Military Criminal Court in Aleppo has sentenced two defendants to death and a third to 12 years in prison over violations during the coastal events. It also handed down additional prison sentences and acquitted two defendants.
The court convicted al-Waddah Ismail and Maher Ali of two felonies: seeking to incite civil war and sectarian fighting, and leading armed gangs with the intent to attack public forces. Both were sentenced to death.
Maher Othman was convicted of complicity in the two felonies and sentenced to 12 years in prison.
The court also sentenced Mohammed Bakour to 20 years in prison for intentional murder and Ammar Abdul Aal to three years for torture. It acquitted Abdul Raouf Bakrjan and Mohammed Zarzouri.
On Sept. 17, the court issued verdicts in cases involving four other defendants accused of violations during the coastal events. One was sentenced to death, another to life imprisonment and a third to 20 years in prison, while the fourth was acquitted.
Public hearings for defendants accused of violations began at the Palace of Justice in Aleppo on Nov. 18, 2025, in the presence of victims’ relatives. Several subsequent sessions were held to review evidence and hear the defendants’ arguments.
On July 22, 2025, the National Committee for Investigating and Establishing the Facts Surrounding the Coastal Events released a report stating that remnants of the deposed regime had carried out widespread attacks on army and security facilities on March 6, 2025, causing the martyrdom of 238 personnel.
The committee also documented violations against civilians in the following days. Its investigation found that the abuses were not organized or systematic, but were committed by individuals and small groups for various motives.
