Washington, May 5 (SANA) Danish shipping company Maersk said Monday that its vehicle carrier Alliance Fairfax safely exited the Gulf through the Strait of Hormuz under U.S. military escort.
In a statement cited by Reuters, the company said the U.S.-flagged vessel, operated by Farrell Lines, completed the transit without incident and that all crew members were safe.
The passage comes amid heightened tensions and prolonged disruption to shipping traffic in the Gulf, where hundreds of commercial vessels have been stranded following the closure of the Strait of Hormuz since early March.
The Alliance Fairfax was among ships affected by the disruption, which has raised concerns over global energy supplies and maritime security in one of the world’s most critical shipping lanes.
Earlier on Monday, U.S. President Donald Trump said Washington would begin implementing what he described as “Project Freedom,” an initiative aimed at assisting vessels stranded in the Strait of Hormuz and ensuring safe passage through the waterway.
Maersk, founded in 1904, is one of the world’s largest integrated shipping and logistics companies, providing global supply chain services including maritime transport, port operations and storage.
