Buenos Aires, July 30 (SANA) Seven people were killed on Wednesday when a wildfire-response helicopter crashed in the Ischigualasto Park area in San Juan Province, western Argentina.
According to Agence France-Presse (AFP), San Juan Governor Marcelo Orrego said the victims included personnel from the fire department, police, and civil protection agencies.
The Argentine Federal Emergency Agency (AFE) said contact was lost with the Bell 412 helicopter while it was operating in the Ischigualasto Park area, located about 1,100 kilometers northwest of the capital, Buenos Aires.
The agency said the helicopter was carrying out a training mission and was scheduled to head to the neighboring province of La Rioja to support efforts to contain a forest fire.
It added that another aircraft operating in the area located the crash site and alerted authorities, leading to the deployment of rescue teams to the remote and difficult-to-access location.
