Doha, April 28 (SANA) Qatar renewed its rejection of using the Strait of Hormuz as a political pressure tool or threatening navigation, stressing that the security of the vital passage is key to global energy markets and supply chains.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed al-Ansari, in remarks reported by Al Jazeera on Tuesday, said Doha does not accept the closure of the strait or disruption of shipping, warning of global economic repercussions, particularly in the energy sector.

Al-Ansari said Qatar’s priority is regional stability, adding that the country supports efforts to achieve a ceasefire, reopen and secure the strait, and reach a resolution to the current crisis through diplomatic channels.

He said Qatar is working toward a comprehensive and sustainable solution to end the conflict and prevent renewed tensions. He added that Doha is coordinating with Pakistan and supports its role as a mediator.

Al-Ansari also said Qatar has taken necessary military measures to protect its sovereignty, noting that it intercepted around 98 percent of attacks targeting the country in the recent period.

He reiterated that Gulf states remain united in calling for a diplomatic resolution while supporting efforts to ensure safe navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

He also reaffirmed Qatar’s continued support for Lebanon as part of efforts to enhance regional stability.

Leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council are holding an extraordinary consultative summit in Jeddah on Tuesday to discuss regional developments amid ongoing tensions.
