Riyadh, April 18 (SANA) Foreign ministers of 10 Arab and foreign countries strongly condemned Israel’s appointment of an ambassador to the so-called Somaliland region, saying the move constitutes a flagrant violation of the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia.
According to a statement issued Saturday by the Saudi Foreign Ministry, the ministers of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Somalia, Sudan, Libya, Bangladesh, Algeria, Palestine, Türkiye and Indonesia expressed full rejection of all unilateral measures that undermine the unity or sovereignty of states.
They reaffirmed their firm support for Somalia’s unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as support for its legitimate state institutions as the sole representatives of the Somali people.
The ministers said such measures violate the principles of international law, the United Nations Charter and the Constitutive Act of the African Union.
They warned that the move sets a dangerous precedent that could undermine stability in the Horn of Africa and negatively affect regional peace and security.
Israel announced on December 26 a mutual recognition arrangement with Somaliland, becoming the only country to take such a step since the region declared unilateral secession in 1991.
The announcement was met with broad rejection from the international community and Arab and Islamic countries. Israel later announced on April 15 the appointment of an ambassador to the region.
