Cairo, April 17 (SANA) Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit welcomed the announcement by U.S. President Donald Trump of a ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel, describing it as a positive step.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Aboul Gheit praised the diplomatic efforts of several Arab countries that helped facilitate the agreement, stressing the importance of all parties adhering to its terms.

He called for building on the ceasefire as an opportunity to launch serious negotiations aimed at a permanent end to hostilities in Lebanon, reaffirming the Arab League’s support for measures taken by the Lebanese state to assert sovereignty over its territory and strengthen stability.

U.S. President Donald Trump announced a 10-day ceasefire agreement between Lebanon and Israel on Thursday. Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam welcomed the move, describing it as a key national demand.
