Washington, March 29 (SANA) The United States on Sunday condemned an attack targeting the residence of Kurdistan Region of Iraq President Nechirvan Barzani in Duhok, describing it as a threat to Iraq’s sovereignty, unity and stability.
In a statement published on the State Department’s website, Washington said it “unequivocally condemns the terrorist attacks carried out by Iran-linked militias” against the residence of the Iraq’s Kurdistan Region president.
The statement described the attack as “a direct assault on Iraq’s sovereignty, unity and stability,” adding that the United States rejects the “cowardly and indiscriminate terrorist acts” by Iran and its affiliated groups targeting the Kurdistan Region and other parts of Iraq.
Security sources in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq had earlier reported that drones targeted Barzani’s residence.
The incident comes amid ongoing security tensions in parts of Iraq and the wider Middle East.
