Amman, March 26 (SANA) Jordan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ayman Safadi said Wednesday that relations between Jordan and Syria have reached their highest levels across political, security, military and economic fields.
Safadi, in remarks broadcast on Al-Mamlaka TV, said he recently held a meeting in Damascus with Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa, along with Jordan’s Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the Director of General Intelligence, as part of a strategic dialogue.
He said the talks focused on cross-border threats, including drug and weapons smuggling, as well as countering ISIS and other forms of terrorism.
Safadi added that discussions covered mechanisms to enhance economic cooperation, noting such steps would have a positive impact on multiple sectors.
Safadi said Syria is entering a critical phase of reconstruction, adding that Jordan supports Syria “within available capabilities,” in line with directives from King Abdullah II.
He said stability in Syria contributes directly to stability in Jordan and the wider region, reiterating Jordan’s condemnation of Israeli attacks on Syrian territory.
Earlier Wednesday, Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani held a phone call with Safadi, during which they discussed regional developments, focusing on security issues and Arab coordination.
