Washington, March 14 (SANA) President Donald Trump said Saturday that the U.S. military has eliminated Iran’s military capabilities and signaled that Washington will continue carrying out strikes on Iranian vessels and infrastructure as part of ongoing operations against Tehran.

Speaking in remarks reported by Reuters, Trump said, “Washington will make the Strait of Hormuz open and safe very soon,” suggesting that U.S. forces would continue targeting Iranian boats and ships that threaten the strategically vital waterway.

Trump added that several countries are expected to contribute warships in coordination with the United States to maintain security in the strait. He expressed hope that nations including China, Britain, France, and Japan would take similar measures.

The U.S. president also noted that a recent attack on U.S. Air Force refueling aircraft at Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia did not destroy the planes, causing only partial damage.

Earlier on Saturday, Trump said that Iran had suffered a major setback and was seeking a deal, but said that the terms proposed were unacceptable to the United States.

In a related development, U.S. Central Command said it had launched a large-scale precision strike on Iran’s Kharg Island overnight, targeting more than 90 military sites while sparing the country’s oil infrastructure. The strikes reportedly destroyed naval mine storage facilities, missile depots, and other military installations.

The United States and Israel have conducted a series of attacks on Iranian targets since February 28. Iran has responded with missile and drone attacks on Israeli territory and other regional sites, escalating tensions in the region.
