Beirut, March 9 (SANA) – The death toll from Israeli airstrikes on the towns of Jouaiya and Tayr Debba in southern Lebanon on Monday has risen to 16, with 40 others injured, according to Lebanon’s Ministry of Health.
The ministry said the strikes killed nine people and injured 17 in Tayr Debba, while seven people were killed and 23 injured in Jouaiya.
Health officials added that two of the attacks targeted civil defense points near the Tayr Debba municipality building, killing one rescuer and injuring two others. Another civil defense worker was killed and four more were wounded in Jouaiya.
Earlier in the day, Israeli airstrikes across southern Lebanon reportedly killed at least 22 people and injured others.
The escalation follows rocket attacks launched by Hezbollah militia toward Israeli positions, after which Israel carried out airstrikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs and several areas in southern Lebanon and the Bekaa Valley, resulting in numerous casualties.
