Beirut, March 6 (SANA) – Lebanese President Joseph Aoun on Friday strongly condemned Israeli attacks on Lebanon and the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), calling on the international community to intervene and halt what he described as a dangerous escalation.
According to the Lebanese National News Agency, Aoun has conducted contacts with Arab and international leaders in recent days in an effort to help stop Israeli strikes targeting several areas across Lebanon, including the south, the Beqaa Valley and Beirut’s southern suburbs.
The Lebanese president said Israeli attacks on Friday also targeted UNIFIL forces, resulting in injuries among peacekeepers.
Earlier in the day, several members of the Ghanaian contingent of the UN mission were wounded after their position in the Lebanese town of Al-Qaouzah came under attack.
Israel has carried out repeated strikes across Lebanon since earlier this week, targeting areas in the south, the Beqaa Valley and Beirut’s southern suburbs. The attacks have so far left more than 200 people dead and hundreds injured, according to Lebanese health authorities.
