Jakarta, March 6 (SANA) Indonesia on Friday began evacuating its citizens from Iran due to escalating regional conflict following a U.S.-Israel strike on Iran on Feb. 28.
Heni Hamidah, the Indonesian Foreign Ministry official in charge of overseas citizens, told AFP that the evacuation will start gradually, with the first phase through Azerbaijan. Further routes will be determined based on field developments and security conditions.
The ministry reports that 329 Indonesians are in Iran, mostly students residing in Qom. For now, the Indonesian government does not plan to evacuate citizens from other Middle Eastern countries, despite nearly 500,000 Indonesians living in the region.
Iran continues missile and drone attacks across several Arab countries, causing casualties and property damage, prompting regional governments to strengthen security measures and monitor developments closely.
