Geneva, April 16 (SANA) Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor warned of what it described as an escalation in Israel’s establishment of fortified military positions in the Gaza Strip near the so-called “yellow line,” which it said isolates about 55% of the territory under Israeli control.
In a statement released Thursday, the group said the development reflects a deliberate strategy to create a permanent reality on the ground, paving the way for the effective annexation of large areas of occupied Palestinian land and undermining Gaza’s geographic continuity.
Field teams from the organization reported a rise in the construction of fixed, fortified Israeli military sites near Salah al-Din Street in eastern Gaza. At least 20 such sites of varying sizes have been identified, it said, indicating an expansion of long-term military control.
The group said these actions contradict the terms of the second phase of the ceasefire agreement, which it said was expected to lead to Israeli troop withdrawals rather than an expansion of military positions.
