Riyadh/Doha, March 6 (SANA) Qatar and Saudi Arabia said on Friday their air defenses had intercepted drones and missiles targeting military bases, as attacks across the region escalate amid ongoing conflict involving Iran.
Qatar’s Ministry of Defense said its air defense forces repelled a drone attack targeting Al Udeid Air Base, according to a statement posted on the social media platform X.
The ministry said on Thursday it had also intercepted multiple aerial threats, including three cruise missiles, 24 drones and 98 ballistic missiles, as well as two Sukhoi Su-24 aircraft, out of the total launched by Iran during attacks on Qatar.
In Saudi Arabia, the Defense Ministry said three ballistic missiles fired toward Prince Sultan Air Base were intercepted and destroyed.
The Saudi Press Agency quoted military spokesman Major General Turki Al-Maliki as confirming the interceptions.
The announcements come as Iranian missile and drone attacks have expanded to several Arab countries, including Saudi Arabia and Qatar, since fighting erupted last Saturday between the United States and Israel on one side and Iran on the other.
