Brussels, March 5 (SANA) Foreign ministers from the European Union and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) issued a joint statement on Thursday, affirming that the security and stability of the Gulf region are essential pillars for the stability of the global economy. The ministers emphasized the profound interconnectedness between Gulf security and European and international security interests.
Following an extraordinary virtual meeting, the ministers clarified that any threat to Gulf security directly impacts global market stability, supply chains, and energy flows. The European Union reaffirmed its full solidarity with the GCC states in the face of ongoing regional security challenges, recognizing the sovereign right of Gulf nations to take all necessary measures to defend their security and territorial integrity.
The joint statement strongly condemned recent “unjustified” Iranian attacks on GCC member states. The ministers demanded an immediate cessation of these hostilities, warning that such actions threaten the security of the entire region and the world.
Furthermore, both sides agreed to intensify diplomatic efforts to reach a permanent solution ensuring that Iran does not acquire a nuclear weapon, a step viewed as vital for regional peace. The statement also underscored the critical importance of maintaining the safety of regional airspace, securing international maritime corridors, specifically the Strait of Hormuz and Bab al-Mandab, and guaranteeing freedom of navigation to protect global supply chains and stabilize energy markets.
This high-level coordination comes as Iran continues to escalate attacks against several Arab nations, targeting vital energy facilities, civilian infrastructure, and diplomatic buildings. These actions have heightened regional tensions and placed global energy markets at significant risk.
