Arab states condemn Iranian missile strikes as regional escalation widens

Damascus, Feb. 28 (SANA) A wave of Arab governments issued forceful condemnations on Saturday after Iran launched missile attacks on the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan, marking one of the most sweeping cross‑border escalations in years. The strikes came in the aftermath of the joint U.S.–Israeli attack on Iran earlier in the day, which Tehran said triggered its retaliation.

UAE: “A flagrant violation of sovereignty”

The UAE denounced the Iranian missile attacks as a blatant breach of national sovereignty and a clear violation of international law. Abu Dhabi affirmed full solidarity with the Arab states targeted and warned of “grave consequences” if such attacks continue. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the UAE reserves its full right to respond in a manner that protects its territory, citizens, and residents.

Qatar: “An unacceptable escalation”

Qatar condemned the Iranian strikes on its territory as a direct assault on national security and an unacceptable escalation. Doha said the attack contradicts principles of good‑neighborliness and undermines years of diplomatic efforts to ease tensions with Iran. The Foreign Ministry stressed that Qatar retains its full right to respond under international law and expressed solidarity with Kuwait, the UAE, Jordan, and Bahrain, which were also targeted.

Saudi Arabia: “Brutal aggression”

Saudi Arabia strongly condemned what it described as brutal Iranian aggression against the UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, and Jordan, calling the attacks a serious threat to regional stability. Riyadh pledged full support to the affected states and urged the international community to take decisive action against Iran’s violations of sovereignty and international norms.

Jordan: “Will not allow any violation of its sovereignty”

Jordan said it intercepted ballistic missiles aimed at its territory and vowed to defend its interests “with full force.” The government stressed that Jordan is not part of any regional escalation and will not permit its territory to be used or targeted in the widening conflict.

Kuwait and Bahrain: Air defenses activated

Kuwait condemned the Iranian strike as a gross violation of its airspace and sovereignty, confirming that its air defenses intercepted incoming missiles. Bahrain reported similar attacks, including a strike near facilities linked to the U.S. Fifth Fleet, and urged residents to seek shelter as sirens sounded across the kingdom.

A rapidly expanding regional crisis

The condemnations followed Iran’s launch of dozens of ballistic missiles and drones across the region, a response to the earlier U.S.–Israeli strike on Tehran and other Iranian cities. The widening exchange has prompted airspace closures, flight suspensions, and heightened military readiness across the Gulf.
