Damascus, July 26 (SANA) A “Palestinian Traditional Dress… Memory of the Land and the Color of Belonging” exhibition opened on Saturday at Yarmouk Camp, organized by Sadeem Foundation for Development in cooperation with the Yarmouk Camp Committee to mark Palestinian Traditional Dress Day.

Chairwoman of the Board of Sadeem Foundation for Development, Huda Khaled Badawi, told SANA that the exhibition features traditional costumes and embroidery representing several Palestinian cities, including Jerusalem, Gaza, Safed, Jenin, Tulkarm, Haifa, and Jaffa, highlighting the richness and diversity of Palestinian cultural heritage.

Badawi said a section dedicated to the traditional dress of the Syrian city of Saraqib underscores the deep cultural and heritage ties between the Syrian and Palestinian peoples.

She added that the exhibition aims to preserve Palestinian cultural heritage, strengthen younger generations’ connection to their national identity, and emphasize that the Palestinian traditional dress is a symbol of history, identity, and belonging.

Palestinian Traditional Dress Day has been observed annually on July 25 since a 2018 decree by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. The occasion celebrates Palestinian traditional dress as a symbol of national identity and cultural heritage and affirms efforts to protect it from appropriation and erasure by the Israeli occupation.

Established in 1957, Yarmouk Camp in Damascus was Syria’s largest Palestinian refugee community, hosting more than 112,000 registered refugees before being largely depopulated during the war.
