Tokyo, Feb.10 (SANA) Japan’s Fire and Disaster Management Agency said Tuesday that the death toll from heavy snowfall across the country has risen to 46, with hundreds more injured.
The agency said snowfall over nearly three weeks buried large areas in northern Japan and caused widespread traffic disruptions, particularly along the coast facing the Sea of Japan, according to Agence France-Presse (AFP).
Many of the fatal incidents occurred when large accumulations of snow fell from rooftops onto residents or when people fell while attempting to remove snow.
According to the latest data, the number of casualties has reached 46 dead and 558 injured so far.
The previous toll announced by Japanese authorities on Feb. 3 reported 30 fatalities.
