Seoul, April 14 (SANA) South Korean President Lee Jae-myung called on Tuesday for “bold steps” to end the war in the Middle East and restore stability, as a fragile ceasefire between the United States and Iran continues to hold, according to Yonhap News Agency.
Speaking during a cabinet meeting, Lee urged all parties to move toward peace grounded in universal human rights and the lessons of history, warning that global calls for de-escalation have reached a critical stage.
Amid continued uncertainty surrounding the region, including key shipping routes such as the Strait of Hormuz, Lee called on his government to diversify supply chains and pursue medium- to long-term structural reforms to address vulnerabilities exposed by the crisis.
He said disruptions to global energy and raw material supplies, along with persistently high oil prices, should now be treated as a baseline scenario, requiring stronger emergency response systems.
Earlier this month, South Korea restarted a nuclear reactor that had been offline for three years after reaching the end of its 40-year operational lifespan, as part of efforts to support domestic energy supplies amid regional instability.
