Jeddah, Jan.18 (SANA) The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Sunday welcomed the formation of the Palestinian National Committee to administer the Gaza Strip, coinciding with the start of the second phase of the ceasefire agreement.
In a statement, the OIC said the step reinforces the unity of Palestinian territory and institutions, stressing the need to preserve geographical and administrative cohesion between the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including Jerusalem.
The organization called for increased pressure on the Israeli occupation to halt all its crimes and policies aimed at undermining the two-state solution, including annexation and settlement expansion, the Judaization of Jerusalem, forced displacement, and settler violence.
The OIC also underscored the importance of enabling the Palestinian government to fully exercise its authority across all Palestinian territory, as a path toward ending the Israeli occupation of all lands occupied in 1967 and achieving an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.
The statement came after U.S. President Donald Trump announced recently the formation of a peace council for the Gaza Strip, following remarks earlier this week by U.S. Special Presidential Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff on the launch of the second phase of Trump’s 20-point plan for Gaza.
The plan includes the establishment of a transitional Palestinian technocratic administration in Gaza, headed by Ali Shaath.
