UN GA votes overwhelmingly to back two-state solution

New York, SANA- The United Nations General Assembly overwhelmingly adopted the “New York Declaration” on resolving the Palestine issue by peaceful means and implementing the two-state solution through concrete, time-bound steps.

The draft resolution was presented by Jérôme Bonnafont, France’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, on behalf of France, Saudi Arabia, and the co-sponsoring states. The resolution was adopted by a vote of 142 in favor, 10 against, and 12 abstentions.

Bonavo said the declaration sets out a single roadmap for achieving a two-state solution thanks to the commitments of the Palestinian Authority and Arab states to peace and security in the region.

What did the New York Declaration stipulate?

Agreeing on joint action to end the war in Gaza and reach a just, peaceful and lasting settlement of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict through the effective implementation of the two-state solution.

Reject any regional or demographic changes, including the forced displacement of Palestinians.

The signatories to the declaration pledged to take concrete and irreversible steps within a time frame for a peaceful settlement and the implementation of the two-state solution, and to work quickly to establish an independent, democratic and sovereign State of Palestine capable of economic continuity, to live side by side with Israel with regional integration and mutual recognition.
