Bogota,SANA- Colombian President Gustavo Petro announced Monday that the country has officially ended coal exports to Israel, describing the move as a response to Israel’s ongoing war in Gaza.
In a post on X, Petro said that Colombian coal was being used “to make bombs that kill Palestinian children,” adding that Bogotá could not continue supplying Israel under those circumstances.
Colombia exported about 5 percent of its coal output to Israel before the decision. The measure follows Bogotá’s suspension of diplomatic relations with Israel in May 2024 due to its aggression on Gaza.
