Damascus May. 20 (SANA) Damascus University signed Wednesday two cooperation agreements with Said Development Foundation to establish an international-standard digital library.
The first agreement outlines the creation of a modern smart digital library for Damascus University, to be located within the university’s campus.
The initiative involves constructing a new building, equipped with modern computers and networking systems, and is scheduled for completion within three years.
The second one provides the creation of an artificial intelligence center at Damascus University, to be based in Informatics Engineering Faculty, designed to serve all academic disciplines, including engineering, basic sciences, medicine, and the humanities.
President of Said Development Foundation, Wafiq Rida Said, expressed pride in signing the two agreements, stressing that they will contribute to advancing education and scientific research in Syria, describing ‘Damascus University’ as the “greatest legacy” of his late father and a beacon of knowledge that has, for decades, produced leaders who helped build Syria.
Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Abdul Hamid al-Khaled told SANA that signing the two agreements reflects a broader momentum by the ministry alongside universities such as Damascus University, to modernize curricula and integrate artificial intelligence technology into academic programs.
Damascus University rector, Dr. Mustafa Sa’im al-Dahr, appreciated the contributions of Said Foundation and its leadership. He noted that the new library will be equipped with advanced technologies, ensuring that students and researchers can consult a wide range of references, it will feature specialized AI-powered software designed to support researchers in their scientific endeavors.
Said Foundation, established in 1984 as a non-profit charity, commits to empowering exceptional individuals from Syria, Jordan, Lebanon, and Palestine, through partnerships with leading UK universities, it provides fully funded master’s scholarships that enable talented students.
