Ministry of Education, UNESCO discuss areas of cooperation in educational sector

Damascus, SANA- Minister of Education, Dr. Mohammad Abdul Rahman Turko, met Tuesday with a delegation from the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), led by Margaux Bergeon-Dars, Director of the Office of the UNESCO Director-General, to discuss ways to strengthen and activate cooperation with the organization.

Ministry of Education, UNESCO discuss areas of cooperation in educational sectorDuring the meeting, held at the Ministry of Education in Damascus, Minister Turko expressed hope to enhance relations with UNESCO and its regional offices.

He outlined the rapid response plan and the strategic roadmap for the future of education in Syria, emphasizing the importance of supporting teachers, developing curricula, and restoring school infrastructure.

The minister also highlighted the role of the National Committee for Education, Culture, and Science in Syria in setting priorities for work in these fields through coordination with relevant ministries and institutions.

Ministry of Education, UNESCO discuss areas of cooperation in educational sectorFor her part, Dars emphasized that education is one of UNESCO’s core pillars and that the organization is highly committed to supporting Syria, particularly in areas such as curricula development and improving conditions for teachers and students.

She noted that the Ministry of Education’s plan aligns closely with UNESCO’s framework, particularly in terms of emergency response efforts.

Dars also affirmed UNESCO’s readiness to provide full support to Syria in the education sector, specifically in rebuilding destroyed schools, revising curricula, and offering social and psychological support to teachers.
