Washington May 20 (SANA) The Embassy of the Syrian Arab Republic to the United States of America condemned in the strongest possible terms the brutal terrorist attack that targeted an Islamic center in San Diego, California. The assault resulted in several casualties, including Syrian citizens residing in the area.
In a statement on X, Wednesday, the embassy said, this violent act constitutes a flagrant violation of fundamental human rights, an assault on religious freedoms, and a direct threat to the values of peaceful coexistence protected by international laws and treaties.
The shooting occurred on Monday at the San Diego Islamic Center, shaking the local community. Security updates regarding the incident include three individuals, including an on-duty security guard, lost their lives in the initial shooting, while several others sustained injuries.
US law enforcement officials confirmed they discovered the bodies of the two main suspects inside their getaway vehicle shortly after the attack. Local police indicated that the suspects appear to have died by suicide.
The Syrian diplomatic mission confirmed that Syrian nationals were among those caught in the gunfire.
