London, May 20 (SANA) Syrian Education Minister Mohammed Abdul Rahman Turko said on Tuesday that girls’ education is a fundamental human right and a national priority, stressing that sustainable development depends on equal access to education and safe learning environments.
Turko made the remarks during Syria’s participation in the Education World Forum 2026 in London, held from May 17 to 20 with ministers and education officials from around the world.
Speaking during a session on girls’ education after crises, Turko said Syrian girls had faced humanitarian, social and economic challenges in recent years, making educational justice a key priority.
“The Syrian Ministry of Education has placed girls’ education among its top priorities,” he said.
Deputy Education Minister Youssef Anan said the forum provided an opportunity to discuss girls’ education in post-crisis settings, educational cooperation and education system development.
On the sidelines of the forum, the Syrian delegation held bilateral meetings with international officials on cooperation in education, human capacity building and support for educational recovery projects.
The annual Education World Forum brings together ministers and officials to discuss global education and skills challenges, while Syria said its participation reflected efforts to strengthen educational partnerships and support development of the sector.
