Russian food aid shipment arrives at Qamishli Airport

Hasaka, SANA – A plane carrying food supplies provided by the Russian people arrived at Qamishli Airport in the northeastern Hasaka province heading from Lattakia Airport.

Hasaka Governor Mohammed Za’al al-Ali extended Hasaka inhabitants’ deep gratitude to the Russian leadership and the friendly people of Russia for their support which stresses the strong Syrian-Russian relationship.

He added that the aid will help alleviate the suffering of Hasaka people due to siege imposed by terrorist groups on land routes leading to Hasaka province.

Al-Ali noted that additional quantities of food aid are scheduled to arrive at Qamishli Airport with the aim of providing citizens with their needs of food, adding that the aid will be distributed to martyrs’ families.

The Russian officer from the Hmeimim-based reconciliation center who supervises aid delivery said that this is the first aid shipment and it contains 12 tonnes of food, including 10 tonnes of flour, 1 ton of sugar and 1 ton of food cans, adding that other aid shipments will arrive soon to the province.

On July 9th, the World Food Program (WFP)announced the launching of a humanitarian aid air bridge to deliver food supplies to people in Hasaka province.
