Damascus, SANA – Landline communications have been back into service in the eastern Deir Ezzor province after an outage that lasted for more than a year and a half.
The outage was caused by a terrorist attack on the optic cable that operates foreign communications and internet in Deir Ezzor city in January, 2015.
Mobile telecommunications, however, were restored in March, 2015, after satellite equipment was set up and connected with the mobile network.
In a statement to SANA, caretaker Minister of Communications and Technology Mohammad Ghazi al-Jalali said the engineering and technical teams of the Syrian Telecom Company have restored the landline communication service to Deir Ezzor.
National and international communications are now back in service in Deir Ezzor city, said director of Deir Ezzor branch of the company Ramadan al-Delli, noting that the equipment necessary for operating the services has been installed at the Communications Center in the city and the network has been connected with the provinces.
Al-Delli added that work is underway to install the necessary equipment to operate the banking network and those of some establishments, such as the Post and the Immigration and Passports.
